Tammy Loran: Legendary Ladies Spotlight

In 2022, I completed a portrait project called Legendary Ladies which was all about celebrating women over 40. As I’ve started a new project, This is Me, I’ve been thinking back on the sessions from my first portrait project in my studio in Cisco, TX.

Over the next several weeks, I’ll be featuring each participant of the Legendary Ladies project on my blog. Follow along as I share these amazing women’s stories.

Today we have the pleasure of shining a spotlight on the first photoshoot we did for the project, Tammy Loran. Her extensive list of accomplishments is a testament to her commitment to public service and her passion for making a difference in the lives of others.

Being the first of this series of portrait sessions, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. I’m not going to lie, it was a little intimidating to know I was going to be photographing the mayor of our town. Turns out, I had nothing to worry about.

Tammy was preparing for her wedding at the time of the photoshoot, so we got to incorporate her wedding dress which was super special. She actually displayed one of the portraits at her wedding.

Get to Know Tammy

Tammy is a retired teacher of 28 years. She is the former first female Mayor of Cisco and former City Councilwoman. She is the former President of Cisco Civic League and Eastland County Retired Teachers. She is on the Board of Directors of The Blessing Box, Officer of Cisco Lion's Club, Director of Cisco Chamber of Commerce and Director of The Conrad Hilton Center and Museum.

Tammy is the youngest of four older brothers and is married to Luke Loran with two children: Lukas and Logan.

What advice would you give your younger self?

“Practice the pause. Pause before judging. Pause before assuming. Pause before accusing. Pause whenever you're about to react harshly, and you'll avoid doing and saying things you'll later regret." -Lori Deschene

How did your view on life change after turning 40?

“Drastically changed: Realized we waste our life pleasing others instead of living life to the fullest. Learned to slow down and enjoy life.”

What is one of the most rewarding things about aging?

“Not caring what others think about me. I am who I am. Take it or leave it.”

My new portrait project: This is Me, is accepting clients. This project is not age based, but is designed for women at all stages of their adult life to step into their highest self confidence. If you’re interested in learning more about the project, click here.
